ACHROMATIC BLACK DYESTUFF DATIVE ELEMENT USED FOR HEAT TRANSFER OF DYESTUFF

PURPOSE: To obtain a neutral black dye donor element for thermal dye transfer by adding 1-((4-phenylazo)phenylazo)-8-amino-2-naphthol to dye. CONSTITUTION: A neutral-black dye-donor element for thermal dye transfer has a dye layer dispersed into a polymeric binder and the dye comprises 1-((4- phenylazo)phenylazo)-8-amino-2-naphthol. The neutral-black dye being used is excellent in transfer characteristics and optical stability and relatively neutral over the entire visible region (400-700 nm). The dye of dye-donor element is dispersed into a cellulose derivative, e.g. cellulose acetate hydrogen phthalate or cellulose triacetate, or a polymeric binder, e.g. poly(sulfon) or poly(phenylene oxide). Coating amount of binder can be set in the range of 0.1-5 G/m<2> . The support may be coated or gravure printed with the dye layer of dye-donor element.
