PURPOSE:To provide an electric double layer capacitor which is superior both low and high temperature characteristics, by causing an average fine hole diameter of electrodes to be within the limits of specific values in accordance with a content of powdered activated-carbon in a polarizable electrode by using the polarizable electrode consisting of powdered carbon materials such as powdered activated carbon, carbon black, graphite, and the like as well as organic binder. CONSTITUTION:Powdered activated carbon materials such as activated carbon powder 80% and carbon black 10% are added by polytetrafluoroethylene 10% and they are wet-kneaded and extended to form a sheet material. In such a case, the average fine hole diameter of its sheet is 0.002y-0.012y (where activated carbon content is y%) and is concretely expressed by an expression: 0.0078X80=0.63mum and the like. This sheet is formed as a polarizable electrode 1 and is bonded and housed into a sheathing container consisting of a cap 4 and a can 5 made of stainless steel with a graphite adhesives through the polarizable electrode 2 having the same compositions as those of the polarizable electrode 1 as well as a separator 3. Then, this device allow the electrode to be impregnated with an electrolytic solution and it is sealed. |
