An apparatus (1) comprises a disc-pressure member (46) and a deck (39) which are movable between an initial position and a loading position to clamp a disc (2) between them, which disc is accommodated in a disc cassette comprising a sleeve (4) and a shutter (13) which is latched in said sleeve by latching means (14), which shutter together with the disc (2) is retained in the apparatus by appropriate means (28), (100) after insertion of the filled cassette into the apparatus the empty sleeve being removed. During withdrawal of the empty sleeve, the shutter (13) and the deck (39) move back to respective operating positions and the disc (40) is positioned between the disc-pressure member (46) and the turntable (40).
