Leukotriene biosynthesis in macrophage cells is inhibited by compounds having the formula <IMAGE> and pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof, wherein R1 and R2 are each hydrogen and R3 is alkyl or arylalkyl; R1 and R3 are each hydrogen and R2 is arylmethyl or arylcarbonyl; R1 is methyl, R2 is arylmethyl and R3 is hydrogen; or R1 is alkyl of seven or more carbons or arylalkyl and R2 and R3 are each hydrogen.
