An apparatus for feeding of pressed straw, especially when rolling up round bales, to a straw processing apparatus such as a combined straw cutter and thrower or a straw mower, and comprising a feed conveyor 4, is provided with a dog roll 38 drive-connected to the latter, which furthermore is free to rotate and free to shift, mounted in guide rails 36, which run essentially parallel to an inclined partial stretch 16 of the feed conveyor 4 and at a distance from it. The dog roll 38 is provided at its opposite ends with a chain wheel 44, which engages with roller chains 26, which likewise at a distance from said inclined partial stretch 16 of the feed conveyor 4 move forward in the same direction and at the same speed of movement as the feed conveyor 4, because the dog roll 38 can freely roll down the roller chains 26 or be carried up on them guided in the guide rails 36. In this way, one achieves an extremely effective feeding apparatus, because the dog roll 38 will automatically seek contact with a round bale 64 introduced on the feed conveyor 4 to grab its straw length for pressing of the latter against the feed conveyor's mentioned inclined partial stretch 16, because the dog roll 38 will either clamp the straw length firmly against the feed conveyor 4 and follow it up or the dog roll 38 will roll down onto the straw length and continually press it against the feed conveyor 4 until the dog roll 38 finally grabs the core of the round bale and holds it firmly against the feed conveyor to deliver the bale core to the top of the inclined partial stretch 16, after which the dog roll 38 will return to make contact again with a new straw bale, and so on. <IMAGE>
