<p>PURPOSE:To avoid interruption of printing operation by informing eventually generated failure on the transport function of the recording medium transport path to an external apparatus only when a failure is sensed on the recording medium transport path selected by print mode specification on the external apparatus. CONSTITUTION:When a print mode specification, for ex. one-side copying command, is given to a printer main control part 19 from an external apparatus 20, sheets are fed from a sheet feed cassette 1 or 2 by feed rollers 3, 4, and transcription and fixation are made after passing a resist roller 5, and they are exhausted upon turning of the recording surface up or down by a flapper 8. When two-side or multiple copying is specified, on the other hand, the sheet is passed to an intermediate tray upon being inverted by an inverting roller 10 or without being inverted, where location is made by a slant feeding roller 11 and a transverse resist adjusting plate 21, and refeeding is made by a refeed roller 12. If failure is sensed on a two-side/multiple transport path, the main control part 19 informs to the external apparatus 20 only when the applicable mode is specified, and single-side copying is continued. Thus unnecessary interruption of the printing operation can be avoided.</p> |
