摘要 PURPOSE:To make it possible to obtain a large brake force by setting a desired engine-brake rotational speed at which the opening degree of an accelerator is substantially zero, and which is higher than an engine speed for running, corresponding to a substantially zero opening degree when a brake is exerted. CONSTITUTION:During running, when a foot is released from an accelerator pedal to make the opening degree of an accelerator substantially zero, an ECU sets a desired engine speed corresponding to the substantially zero opening degree so as to control speed change such that engine brake operation is relatively low, that is, deceleration. In this arrangement, when a brake pedal is depressed so as to brake the vehicle, a desired engine-brake rotational speed which is higher than the desired engine speed is set so as to control speed change in accordance with the engine speed, thereby a large engine brake force is effected. Thus, a vehicle brake force is increased to enable the stopping distance to be short.
