CONSTITUTION:The signal charge stored in a photoelectric conversion element 201 is read by a vertical transfer stage 202 simultaneously. Then the undesired charge is transferred in a vertical transfer stage 202 at a high speed and discharged via a horizontal transfer stage 203 and an output section 204 and the signal charge required for vertical magnification is transferred intermittently through the vertical transfer stage 202 once per two horizontal scanning periods to obtain the magnification of twice. Then the undesired charge is transferred in the vertical transfer stage 202 at a high speed and discharged via the said horizontal transfer stage 203 and output section 204. The signal charge required for the vertical magnification is subject to serial parallel conversion from the vertical transfer stage 202 to the horizontal transfer stage 203 once per 2-horizontal scanning periods and the undesired charge is transferred at a speed being a half the conventional speed through the horizontal transfer stage 203 and discharged through the output section 204. Thus, double zoom is applied.
