PURPOSE:To prevent overshoot by compensating a control output value so that a predicted engine speed calculated from a variation rate in actual engine speed become lower than a desired value after a predetermined time period elapses if the predicted engine speed is higher than the desired value. CONSTITUTION:During running, if a desired engine speed N0 exceeds an actual engine speed N when an accelerator pedal is, for example, depressed, a gear shift change speed is computed as a gear ratio control value in accordance with the difference between the desired engine speed and the actual engine speed so as to control gear shift to make the actual engine speed equal to the desired engine speed. In such a control operation, a variation rate of the actual engine speed N is obtained simultaneously, and a predicted engine speed NY after a predetermined time period elapses, is computed in accordance with the variation rate. If the predicted engine speed NY exceeds the desired engine speed N, the control output value is compensated. Thus, it is possible to prevent the engine speed from overshooting. |
