摘要 <p>Direct reduction of iron is made using a high sulphur (up to 3%) carbonaceous fuel. The ore with a particle size below 0.125 inch is mixed with 1-5% of a sulphur control agent to a similar size and fed into a kiln at about 750 deg.C to remove pyritic and organic sulphur. The material is discharged from the kiln at 1070 (±) 15 deg.C to avoid sulphur absorption while the level of fixed carbon in the material is 5-15%. The sulphur control agent is removed by screening before returning the charred reducing agent to the kiln. The method allows coal to be used as the sole source of heat for the ore reduction process.</p>
