PURPOSE: To obtain a sufficient response speed corresponding to the speed of a program by utilizing a high-speed mode wherein the device is reduced in resolution horizontally and vertically. CONSTITUTION: In addition to a standard mode wherein a CRT 25 operates with full precision, this device has the high-speed mode wherein the device is reduced in resolution horizontally and vertically to, for example, 1/n and 1/m. Namely, when a high-precision picture of, for example, 1K×1K dots in both the horizontal and vertical directions is formed in the standard mode, the high-speed mode includes the vertical resolution and horizontal resolution so as to obtain a slightly rough screen of 512×256 dots. Consequently, a sufficient response speed corresponding to the speed of an application program can be obtained even for a high-precision screen.
