The invention relates to a shelving system having two spaced-apart, vertical posts, to which vertical panels are fixed in each case at their lateral edges as rear-wall parts, and having at least one shelf which is fixed by its rear corners to the vertical posts. At least two vertically superposed rear-wall parts are mutually spaced apart in the vertical direction, so that a gap is formed between them. The shelf is arranged in the region of the gap and with its rear edge substantially fills the gap. The rear edge of the shelf has at least one indentation for leading cables or the like between shelf and adjacent rear-wall part. Electric connection cables can be passed behind the rear-wall parts virtually invisibly.
