Chipboard, and process for the production of chipboard

Chipboard comprises chipped wood material and a binder. A process for the production of chipboard comprises mixing chipped wood material with a binder, and subjecting the resultant mixture to heat treatment and shaping, giving a board. In order to obtain environmentally acceptable and economical chipboard and an environmentally acceptable and economical process for the production of chipboard, it is proposed that the binder used be a plastic material based on polystyrene, the chips of the wood material being bonded to one another via a solidified melt of the binder.
