The invention relates to a control water system with radially external control valve for centrifugal separators with an axially movable piston slide which, during operation, opens and closes mud discharge slots located radially on the outer edge of the drum, and in which control water system the control valve is connected to the control water feed system via control water channels and a control water collection chamber. The control water channel is constructed according to the invention with a nozzle-shaped opening in the direction of the control water collection chamber, which opening is dimensioned in such a way that a constant liquid level is maintained in front of this opening and the amount of control water which enters the control water channel through this nozzle is 1.2 times the amount of control water which leaves through the valve nozzle of the control valve. This design ensures that a control water system is produced which operates independently of the supplied control water pressure and has a continuously constant opening time of the mud discharge slots for the respective partial mud clearance.
