The device serves for sealing landfill sites and has a base seal disposed below a landfill body. To the base seal there is connected an upwardly extending sealing wall, which, to allow monitoring, is formed by an inner and outer sealing ring with an interspace lying between them. The sealing effect of the outer and inner sealing ring can be monitored from the interspace, so that in the event of leakage points, countermeasures can be initiated at an early stage.
