An adjusting device with an incremental mechanism, in particular for adjusting the height of a seat or inclination of the backrest of a motor-vehicle seat, comprises, amongst other things, a support, an adjusting toothed part mounted rotatably on the support, a hand lever, a connecting device actuable by the hand lever and a locking device actuable by the hand lever. The hand lever is of rigid design. The connecting device comprises a double-claw part which is mounted movably on the hand lever in a first bearing and can be swivelled by means of an additional lever, which is mounted rotatably on the support and is preloaded by a spring into a normal position, from a central position, in which it is not in engagement with the toothed part, into connecting positions, in which in each case one claw engages in the toothed part.
