PURPOSE:To suppress generation of hydrogen gas and enhance the performance of a cell by amalgamating in dilute alkali aque. solution, then neutralizing by acetic acid aque. solution, and by flushing and drying. CONSTITUTION:By zinc powder is signified not only powder consisting merely of zinc but also zinc alloy powder turned into alloy by other elements such as PB and In. This zinc powder is amalgamated in dilute alkali solution of kalium hydroxide, sodium hydroxide, etc. The Hg content of the amalgamated zinc powder will be around 3.0wt.% or less, but it shall preferably be under 1.5wt.% with low pollution effect taken into consideration. This amalgamated zinc powder is neutralized in acetic aque. solution, wherein the acetic acid concentration shall be approx. 1mol/l and the amount of acetic acid range 0.5-10mol per kg zinc. The amalgamated zinc powder neutralized in this man ner is flushed and dried to reduce ZnO, and is used as neg. electrode active substance of alkaline cell. |
