PURPOSE:To make the specifications of a printer easily changeable by separating a control ROM and a character ROM from a main unit and storing these ROMs into a freely detachable cartridge. CONSTITUTION:The subject printer is composed of a board 30 housed in a cartridge enclosure which is separated from a board 20 with a printing head drive circuit 4, a carriage motor drive circuit 5, a paper feed motor 6, MPU7 and RAM8. A cartridge 31 is composed of a control ROM9 which stores the sequence of controlling a plurality of circuits 32 for transmission and reception with a host machine, a head drive circuit, a CR motor drive circuit and an LF motor drive circuit, a character ROM10 storing character patterns and a board 30 with a mounted external interface 11 such as RS232C. The control ROM9 and character ROM10 and the composed of a plurality of ROMs respec tively. However, in the case of the version consisting of a plurality of ROMs, an ROM selection circuit is required depending on occasion. Conversely, the control ROM9 and character ROM10 can share a single ROM. |
