For plastifying and deforming, for example by folding, workpieces of thermoplastic materials, an apparatus has been developed which brings together a vertically movable heating rail (6) and a rigid heating rail (12) with their heating or contacting surfaces by means of lever actuation and makes it easy to work the workpiece lying in between in the plastifying area. The inflowing heat or the hot air is generated, for example, in a conventional plastics welding device or in a similar device and is conveyed in a pipe system. Different pipe diameters, in particular diameter reductions at the open end of the pipes, make possible a relatively constant working temperature in the welding rails (6, 12). <IMAGE>
