PURPOSE:To provide a tundish which can separate the nonmetallic inclusions in molten steel in particular with good efficiency, by passing the molten steel charged into the tundish through a pair of gates provided with a difference in height so as to bring the same into contact once with the mold powder floating on the surface of the molten steel. CONSTITUTION:The molten steel charged from a ladle into a tank 1a on the inlet side of molten steel is passed between gate plates 3 and 3' from the clearance formed in the lower part of the plate 3 so as to flow upward and to be brought into contact with the mold powder 6 floating on the molten steel surface in a tundish 1. The nonmetallic inclusions in the molten steel are thus captured by the powder 6 and are separated away from the molten steel. The molten steel removed of the nonmetallic inclusions is stored in the tank 1b on the outlet side of the molten steel, from which the molten steel is charged through a nozzle 5 into a casting mold. The plate 3' on the tank 1b side is preferably formed to the height h satisfying the relation 0.4l<=h<=0.8l with respect to the height lof the molten steel in the tundish. |
