The invention relates to an installation for melting metals, in particular non-ferrous metals, having a shaft melting furnace with a combustion chamber. The object of the invention is to provide an installation of this type in which an environmentally friendly waste gas leaves the installation and the heat balance of the installation is optimised, which should be effected with structurally simple means. Furthermore, the installation should afford the possibility of melting material of various shapes together and also any material individually. The operation of the installation should not require any special skills. The invention stands out from the prior art in that the shaft melting furnace (1) is assigned a hearth furnace (11) whose flue-gas outlet is led directly into the combustion chamber (6) of the shaft melting furnace (1). <IMAGE>
