Folding-down wing mirrors of a known type are arranged so as to be pivotable on a mounting by means of a spring, which mounting is fastened to the vehicle body. The pivot movement can be carried out around two parallel vertical pivot axes. Folding down can therefore only be made to occur by the action of horizontal forces. There is no yielding movement in the event of a collision from a vertical direction. The new wing mirror has a plurality of folding axes which together form an angle so that a folding-down movement ensues as a result of forces acting from horizontal and vertical directions and intermediate positions. The wing mirror is fastened to a mounting by means of a spring, which mounting is inserted into a recess in the vehicle body. The new wing mirror is used especially for motor vehicles. <IMAGE>
