The invention proposes a hygienic protective element, for example for the reception of the intestinal excreta of subjects having an artificial intestinal outlet, which comprises a carrier layer of a fibrous material, an intermediate layer firmly connected to the carrier layer and made of a water-soluble film, and a very thin hydrophobic layer located on the film. Such a hygienic protective element can be dissolved in water starting from the carrier layer, whereupon the thin hydrophobic layer, which has low mechanical strength, tears, so that the hygienic protective element can be disposed of without any problems.
