PURPOSE:To improve the mechanical characteristics and creep resistance of the title alloy by specifying the contents of Ca, Sn and Al in said alloy. CONSTITUTION:The compsn. of the Pb-based alloy for a storage battery is constituted of, by weight, 0.01-0.5% Ca, 2.05-5.0% Sn, 0.005-0.15% Al and the balance Pb. In said compsn., its mechanical strength is improved by the addition of Ca. The castability and mechanical strength of the alloy are improved by the addition of Sn. The dispersion of the size in its crystal grain size is reduced and the boundary slipping of trace crystals is suppressed by the addition of Al. At the same time, Al is deposited into the boundary to make the whole boundary slipping difficult and it reduces the dependency of the tensile strength on the strain rate to improve its creep resistance. Said alloy is suitable for a lattice substrate of a battery free from maintenance. |
