SURFACE-COATED CEMENTED CARBIDE COMPONENT

A surface-coated cemented carbide article has a hard multilayer coating comprising an inner layer of TiC, and outer layer of TiC and one or more intermediate layers consisting either of a single TiN layer or a TiN layer sandwiched between TiCN layers. There may also be an outermost coating of Al2O3. The article is especially suitable as a high speed cutting tool. The coating has a good combination of initial wear resistance and heat shielding properties, giving the tool a good breakage resistance and long life.
