PURPOSE:To reduce the amt. of water for washing by allowing a fixed proportion of a specified chelate compd. basing on the amt. of thiosulfate contained in a fixer, to be contained in a fixer. CONSTITUTION:In a process for treating a black and white silver halide photosensitive material comprising a developing step, fixing step, and a water-washing step, wherein the washing water is not supplemented at all or supplemented by only <=1,200ml/m<2> per 1m<2> on the photosensitive material to be treated, >=5X10<-3>mol (basing 1mol thiosulfate contained in the fixer) chelate compd. having >=6.0 stabilization constant (log KML) for Mg<++> is incorporated to the fixer. The fixer contains thiosulfate, preferably ammonium thiosulfate, and the content is 0.1-5.0, pref. 0.5-2.0mol/l. Preferred preservative used in the fixer is generally sulfite. |
