PURPOSE: To make it possible to compound a matting agent in the form of not inducing a starry sky effect in a photographic element by constituting respective particles in such a manner that these particles consist of polymer particles individually coated with one layer of the gelatin covalent bonded thereto. CONSTITUTION: The polymer particles 30 respectively coated with the covalent bonded gelatin layers are usable as the matting agent for the photographic element. If the polymer particles are used in such a manner, the surface of a gelatin-contg. layer 20 is preferably coated with the particles 30 after the partial or complete drying of these layers. The gelatin layers of the particles 30 are preferably covalent bonded (crosslinked) with the gelatin of the adjacent layers of the element. As a result, the need for forcibly adhering the particles to any emulsion layer of the lower layers is eliminated and the problems of the starry sky effect are decreased. |
