PURPOSE:To satisfactorily sterilize and remove microorganisms such as coliform by constituting a filter medium for sterilization of a copper alloy contg. any one among copper, nickel, tin and zinc or >=2 kinds thereof and extremely slight copper impurities and using such filter medium. CONSTITUTION:The filter medium for sterilization is constituted of the copper alloy which contains any one kind among silver, tin and zinc or >=2 kinds thereof and is adjusted in content ratio to 0.05-1% silver, 1-30% nickel, 0.5-2% tin, >=20% zinc and <=1% copper impurities. Such filter medium 1 for sterilization is cut to micropieces. Such filter media 1 and the filter media 3 for removing pulverized fine powder materials consisting of potassium pulverized fine powder materials consisting of potassium feldspar, activated carbon, BAKUHANSEKI (siliceous stone produced in Japan) zeolite, etc., are alternately laminated and packed into a water cleaning up device 2. The microorganisms such as coliform are satisfactorily sterilized and removed and the elution of copper ions, etc., into water is effectively suppressed if such water cleaning device is used. Extremely effective water cleaning can be achieved.
