<p>PURPOSE: To improve the read accuracy by calculating all picture elements Tj (j is a column number of a matrix) in a 1st logic state in each column of the matrix ad deciding an SDA value to regard a small probability of including bars of a bar code for columns whose Tj is smaller than the SDA value. CONSTITUTION: A prescribed image area is eliminated from a processed block to leave only a rectangular block in which bars of a bar code are mainly included with high probability. The probability is decided by counting picture elements of a block along each column. Then a shape recognition operation is applied to the selected rectangular block and in this case, other blocks are not taken into account. The recognition is made by comparing the image stored in each block with a theoretical image of bard for applications on a topic and a black areas included in the rectangular block are used for comparison parameter. Thus, even when marks are incomplete or located on a background with band quality, the bars are recognized and decoded.</p> |
