PURPOSE: To obtain the subject medicinal agent which is useful for treatment of schizophrenia accompanied by cerebral atrophy by combining an indium, cesium or cerium compound which is assimilable and pharmaceutically permissible with a pharmaceutically permissible diluent or carrier. CONSTITUTION: An assimilable and pharmaceutically permissible indium cesium or cerium compound or preferably a novel essential fatty acid salt of these metals, particularly a salt ofγ-linolenic acid, higher n-6 acid, stearidonic acid or higher n-3 acid is combined with a pharmaceutically permissible diluent or a carrier, preferably the above-stated fatty acid to prepare a medicine for treating schizophrenia accompanied by cerebral atrophy or other chronic brain diseases. In a preferred embodiment, the metal compound calculated as a metal or individual metal compounds are used in amounts of 1-500mg and the fatty acid is used in an amount of 1-100mg calculated as a free acid in a dose unit form.
