The tube comprises an envelope with a phosphor screen on its inner surface, a shadow mask disposed in the envelope near the phosphor screen and having a main surface portion with a number of apertures, and an electron gun for emitting beams which are selectively transmitted through the apertures onto the screen to emit multicoloured light. A layer having a ceramic material as a major component is chemically bonded to that surface of the main surface portion of the shadow mask, which is at one side of the electron gun. A conductive layer is then formed on that layer.
