PURPOSE:To improve the resolution of a video image to be reproduced by providing an A/D converter for a video signal, a memory storing its output, a memory read controlling circuit, a D/A converter and a video signal recording circuit. CONSTITUTION:The video signal inputted to an input terminal 101 is converted into a digital signal by the 1st ADC 102 and stored in the 1st memory 104 and the 2nd memory 105 via the 1st control circuit 103. The video signal of the 1st field is stored in the 1st memory 104 and the video in the 2nd field is stored in the 2nd memory 105 sequentially. The recorded signal is read sequentially by the 1st control circuit 103, and converted into an analog signal by the 1st DAC 106. The converted output signal is separated into a luminance signal and a chrominance signal by the 1st video signal processing circuit 107. The luminance signal is converted by the frequency modulator 108 and the chrominance signal is onverted by the 1st frequency converter 109, they are mixed and amplified and recorded on a magnetic tape 116.
