PURPOSE:To obtain a large output signal at a switching point of a FM envelope by making the track center of a recording /reproducing head coincident with that for a special reproducing head and setting the track width of the special reproducing head to >= twice the recording and reproducing head. CONSTITUTION:The recording/reproducing heads 1, 2 and the special reproducing head 3 are arranged on a rotary cylinder 4, and the heads are arranged so that a half (TA/2, TB/2, TC/2) of the width of tracks (TA,TB, TC) is on the same line in the relation of height and width of the heads, and the track width TC of the special reproducing head is >= twice the track widths TA, TB of the recording/reproducing heads. A video signal of a field is stored in a memory by A/D conversion by using the rotary magnetic heads constituted in this way and a picture of one frame is displayed, then an excellent picture is obtained.
