PURPOSE:To improve reliability and operability in a work station by loading an updated program automatically on a backup memory when the content of a main memory is updated. CONSTITUTION:At the time of loading a program from an external processor 2 to the main memory 4, the basic part of firmware FW in the work station is loaded first. Next, the identification number of the FW stored in the memory 4 is compared with that of the FW stored in the backup memory 5 in an identification number comparison part 6. And it is decided whether or not those number coincide, and when both identification numbers coincide, a remaining FW is loaded on the memory 4 from the processor 2. When coincidence is not obtained between them, after the basic part of the FW being loaded from the memory 4 to the memory 5, the remaining FW is loaded from the processor 2, then, the content of the memory 5 is updated. In such a way, the content of the memory 5 can be updated automatically, and the reliability, etc., for the station 1 can be improved.
