<p>PURPOSE:To enable the discrimination of the length of a buried substance, by a construction wherein a front member made of a nonmetal and having a required strength is fitted to the fore end part of a machine propelling in the ground or excavating same and antennas transmitting and receiving a wave are provided on the back side of the member so that they can be inclined. CONSTITUTION:A front plate 3 operating as a front member and made of ceramics is fitted to the fore end part 2 of a propelling tube 1 made of steel, while an antenna accommodating element 4 is formed integrally on the back side of the front plate 3. With an electricity fed from a transmission circuit 13, a pulse of high frequency is transmitted from an antenna element 6 for transmission into the earth in the advancing direction of the fore end part 2 through a viscous liquid 5 and the front plate 3, and a reflected wave from a buried substance 20 or the like is received by an antenna element 7 for reception. When a control processing unit 18 receives the reflected wave from a reception circuit 14 and confirms the presence of the buried substance, a driving means 12 is operated and the elements 6 and 7 are inclined or rotated through the intermediary of a driving arm 9. In this way, the buried substance 20 can be discriminated as to whether it is short or long.</p> |
