The overload protection mechanism is for hoists, and is used for preventing deformation of a crane, when a crane hoists load beyond its capacity. This mechanism is also for compactibility and reliable operation. The device consists of a toothed member (23) and components with a portion (41) engaged in one of the gaps between its teeth. The components hinge on a support (36) moving to and from the member, being spring-loaders (25) into the engaged position. While either the member or the support is coupled to a lifting platform, portion (41) of the component is then thrust out of the gap.
