The invention relates to a device enabling any person lost at sea to be located. It consists of a light-gas bottle 1 fitted onto which are two balloons 2. The gas bottle is covered by a hollow cover 3 enclosing the balloons and keeping two push buttons 4 and 5 in the closed position, one serving to release gas in order to inflate the balloons, the other, once released, causing an electric pulse to pass to a glass-covered light-signal device 6 mounted on a battery and attached beneath the bottle. Next, attached beneath the light-signal device, comes the housing 7 for a coil of small cord, the outside end of the said small cord 8 forming a loop and projecting from the housing so as to be able to be connected to the clothing of the shipwrecked person. The device according to the invention is particularly intended for any person who may be in difficulties in the sea. <IMAGE>
