Nonflammables having formula (I) are prepd. by condesnsing 9, 10- dihydro-9-oxa-10-phosphaphenanthrene-10-oxide (or its benzenering substituent) with N-compd. (having reactive H) of formula HN(AR5) (BR6) and carbonyl compd. of formula R3C(=O)R4 at 50-200 deg.C. In the formula, R1 and R2=halo or C1-6 hydrocarbon, same or not, R3 and R4=C1-6 hydrocarbon or H, R5 and R6=ester-forming gp. or H, A and B=0-10 org. residue, n1 and n2=0-4 integer.
