Flat sheets, signatures or cardboard blanks are deposited on edge on a horizontal belt conveyor (1) to rest against a steeply sloping intermediate belt conveyor (10) shorter than the height of the flat items. This transfers the items to the bottom part of a conveyor (3) which slopes at the same angle, and which is perforated, with a suction box (4) behind it. Each item then passes upwards between this belt and the bottom part of an upper conveyor belt (5), to reach a horizontal part of both belts (3,5) for discharge at an upper level to fall into a collector vessel (2) underneath. Transfer at the junction zone between the intermediates and perforated belts is assisted by flexible strip guides (11) and air jets (12). ADVANTAGE - Good sheet separation.
