<p>A method for combating viral infection in a human or animal patient, comprises administering to the patient histocompatible blood cells or bone marrow stem cells which have been transformed with a nucleotide sequence coding for a protein or polypeptide which, on expression by the cells will reduce the rate at which the superinfecting virus particles can enter the cells. The nucleotide sequence may be a sequence or gene coding for all or an immunologically-active portion of a HIV envelope protein such as gp160, gp120 or gp41.</p> |
