To drive a working cylinder, in particular the bellows-type cylinder of a metering device, a hydrostatic machine is provided which is coupled to a hydrostatic control unit. Both units are supplied with pressure medium from an accumulator. The two units form a hydraulic transformer, the mode of operation of which is regulated in such a way that the installed power for the transformer and the accumulator is reduced. The arrangement is also suitable for actuating several working cylinders, the ratio of the metered quantities being adjustable.
