PURPOSE:To obtain the title thick-walled hollow composite material free from structural defects, by winding and laminating a resin-impregnated C fiber around a specific mandrel or impregnating a resin into a C fiber wound and laminated around the mandrel and curing the resin with heat. CONSTITUTION:The mandrel used in the present process is made of a ceramic material (e.g. SiC) which is non-reactive with C in an inert atmosphere (e.g. Ar) at or above the carbonization temperature (500-1,500 deg.C) or a heat-treatment temperature (>=2,000 deg.C), has a linear expansion coefficient of <=1X10<-5>/ deg.C and has a melting point higher than the carbonization temperature or the heat- treatment temperature. C fiber impregnated with a resin (e.g. phenolic resin) is wound and laminated around the mandrel or C fiber is wound and laminated around the mandrel and impregnated with the resin. The impregnated resin is cured and carbonized by heating at 500-1,500 deg.C in an inert gas atmosphere. As necessary, the product is impregnated with a resin, coal tar, etc., and heat- treated at >=2,000 deg.C in an inert gas atmosphere to densify the product. |
