METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR MANUFACTURING PULP

A method and an apparatus at the manufacture of mechanical or chemimechanical pulp from lignocellulose-containing material. The material has the form of pieces with a length of at least 100 mm and is impregnated, whereafter a definite amount of the material pieces with the fibers oriented substantially in the same direction is pressed to a compact block in a press (8). This block is thereafter defibred by pressing it against a defibering member (14), while simultaneously liquid is added thereto, with the fibre direction substantially in the same plane as the surface of the defibering member and perpendicular to its running direction.
