The waste container for medical refuse consists of a lower part and a lid (10) firmly attached thereto with a closable discard aperture (14). The latter can be closed by means of a disc (20) which is rotatably mounted on the inside of the lid. By means of a handle (26, 28) the disc (20) can be turned against the action of a restoring spring (24) into a position in which the discard aperture (14) is flush with the hole (22) in the disc (20).
