The clamping cylinder described is preferably used in hydraulic clamping systems for NC machine tools. It is of particular significance when the workpieces are clamped on pallets which have to be separated from the hydraulic pump for introduction into the machining space of the machine tool. With the cylinder described, monitoring of the clamping forces is not necessary as a pressure loss in the hydraulics system does not result in a change in the clamping force.
