Process for producing carbon or electrographite bodies, in which pre-shaped green compositions containing carbon-containing filler materials and, optionally, inorganic and/or organic aggregates and also a thermoplastic binder, or a semi-carbonised type of material, are pressed alone or with binder and subsequently thermally treated, with a primary thermal treatment in a hydrogen atmosphere containing at least 10-30% by volume of hydrogen or in pure hydrogen under increased pressure, isobarically or non-isobarically or isochorically at a cold gas pressure of from 0.2 to 10 MPa to at least 400@C and at most 750@C being carried out first, and a calcination treatment at further increased temperature being subsequently carried out.
