This invention relates to a fluid retarder of the type wherein a rotor impeller (20) on the output side and a stator impeller (21) on the housing side are disposed inside a housing so as to face each other and an operating oil can be freely charged into and discharged from the housing while air functions as an operating fluid when the operating oil is discharged. In this retarder a movable vane (24) having one of the ends supported rotatably by a stator blade (30) is disposed at that edge of a blade (30) of the stator impeller (21) facing the rotor impeller (20) and a spring member (54) which biases this movable vane (24) in such a manner as to prevent the inflow of the operating fluid and air into the stator impeller is disposed. In this manner the present invention reduces both the weight and the cost of production. |
