<p>The passengers and driver of a motor vehicle are protected from serious injury in the event of a crash by means of bags inflated with a gas. The gas used for this purpose is nitrogen which is generated by burning sodium azide in a gas generator. The sodium azide is ignited by means of an acceleration sensitive device.S The gas generator consists of a housing made in two parts (30,32) which are screwed together. This housing is fitted with a filter (42) which is made of metal mesh and removes solid particles from the gas and at the same time cools the gas.</p> |
