Tetrahydrothienopyridines of the formula in which R is optionally substituted aryl or heterocyclyl, R1 is an organic radical, and R2, R3 and R4 each independently is hydrogen or an organic radical, or pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof, which are coronary active, hypotensive, anti-diabetic and salt balance restoring.
