摘要 PURPOSE:To enable to obtain an image even in high degree of illumination intensity by a method wherein, in a one-dimensional image-pickup device, an independent switch group to be used to read out a photoelectric charge from an image pickup element and a device with which the ON-OFF control is performed on the switch group are provided. CONSTITUTION:A read-out switch group 4 and a digital shifting register 5 are added to the conventional solid-state image pickup device, thereby enabling to reduce the time required to read-out the storage time of a solid-state image pickup element. An image is transferred by adding a starting pulse 50 to the digital shifting register 5 in the state wherein a photo output 20 is saturated by having a high degree of illumination intensity. As said starting pulse 50 is imputted faster than the starting pulse 10 in the distance Ts', the photoelectric charge of the solid-state image pickup element 3 is turned to zero. The photoelectric charge, which will be read out by the next digital shifting register 1, is turned to the electric charge stored between the distance Ts', and the intensity of light can be detected even in a high degree of illumination intensity by properly setting the distance Ts'.
